Tasting Note
Consistently a value favorite, the old vines (Viñas Viejas) bottling of Las Rocas is showing a slightly different face at this time: the new oak barrels used for its aging add a marked vanilla, dry toast, and even graphite character to the wine. The fruit is nonetheless very Calatayud: lots of cherries of all types, mostly ripe, and some stony dustiness. Drink now or in the next several years.
Wine Description
The wine shows a deep ruby, almost purple color and a spicy, rich cranberry bouquet. Its dark cherry flavors are highlighted by excellent structure and depth, all supported by elegant oak. It is round and full in the mouth with supple tannins and a fruit-filled finish.
About the Winery
Las Rocas is dedicated to creating wines that express the unique charm of Garnacha in a contemporary Spanish winemaking style. The Bodega San Alejandro cooperative provides grapes from hundreds of small vineyards on the rocky, slate-strewn slopes of Calatayud to blend the extraordinary wines of Las Rocas.
