This year, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants were announced at Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Spain – located in Green Spain. Tastemakers from all over the world arrived in the Basque Country during the days leading up to the ceremony, celebrating the region’s exceptional dining at acclaimed restaurants such as Victor Arguinzoniz’s Asador Etxebarri, Eneko Atxa’s Azurmendi, Andoni Luis Aduriz’s Mugartiz, and of course the Arzak family’s venerable Arzak in neighboring San Sebastián
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awarded Spanish chefs outside the Basque Country as well, with the Roca brothers’ El Celler de Can Roca in Girona landing in the second overall spot, and Disfrutar in Barcelona taking the 18th position.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is organized and compiled by William Reed Business Media. It is created from the votes of more than 1,000 restaurateurs, chefs, food writers, and gastronomes. The voters are split into 26 separate regions around the world. Each region has its own panel of 40 members.
