New York Welcomes Mercado Little Spain

It’s finally here! In March 2019, the long-awaited Mercado Little Spain food market and restaurant opened in New York’s Hudson Yards.

Inspired by the historic mercados (markets) of his home country, U.S.-based Spanish-American chef José Andrés and Ferran and Albert Adria have created an all-day dining destination for food and wine lovers to enjoy the best products and recipes of Spain in New York City.

Mercado Little Spain has three restaurants – Leña, Mar and Spanish Diner – offering dishes made with Spanish products, including paella made over a wood fire. In addition to restaurant offerings, there are fifteen stands serving a variety of tapas – from patatas bravas to churros.

Furthermore, the market’s three bars are now open to the public: vermouth-focused cocktails at Bar Celona, and two full-service wine bars with La Barra and Vinos, both of which serve a full tapas menu.

  • At Vinos, customers will be able to discover the vast world of Spanish wines. From the volcanic soils of the Canary Islands to Rioja, Spain has an incredible diversity of wines. A large selection of wines are available by the glass, including a number of sherries – fortified wines from Andalusia.
  • Bar Celona is a take on the Spanish vermutería – a place for a drink, a bite, and a good time with friends. Cocktails, vermouth, and sangrías are on the menu, highlighting some of the best of Spanish drinking culture.
  • At La Barra, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the many beloved dishes from tapas bars all around Spain. Both the classics and regional favorites are represented, from traditional croquetas de pollo to Andalusia’s tiny fried puntillitas (baby squid). A wide selection of wines from around the country are available by the glass or bottle.
  • At Spanish Diner’s bar, customers will find a great selection of Spain’s classic drinks: aromatic and flavorful gin & tonics, red wine-and-cola kalimotxos, sherry-and-soda rebujitos, sangrías, and more!
